THE last time France beat Ireland in Dublin in a World Cup game, the winning goal was a moment of magic and genius from Thierry Henry -- so the Irish players are frustrated that France won the first battle at Croke Park on Saturday night with a freakish, deflected goal from Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka.

"That's the disappointing thing, the way they scored," said substitute winger Stephen Hunt.

"If they had scored a great goal against us, you'd hold your hand up and admit it, but that was such a lucky goal for them. We were all very disappointed after the game, but we will pick ourselves up and move on to the next game. We have a few days to prepare for the Paris match, we can see where we need to improve and what we need to do more of. The main thing now is that we need to score a goal."

MIXED

Now is a test of how good Ireland can be on their travels, and so far under the current manager our record is a mixed bag.

In the eight games outside of Ireland that we have played under Giovanni Trapattoni, Ireland have failed to score in just one, the 0-0 draw in Monetengro.

"But in eight games we have kept a clean sheet just three times, that scoreless draw in Podgorica and the 1-0 wins over Colombia and Nigeria in the neutral venue of Fulham's Craven Cottage in London.

"We have scored goals away from home before, we can do it again," said Hull City's Hunt.

"Unfortunately, we have also conceded goals in those away games as well, so if we can get one goal, keep a clean sheet, take it to extra time at least and see if we can win it."
