Hughton hails Rooney patience after double
BIRMINGHAM City boss Chris Hughton has praised Irish striker Adam Rooney for remaining patient in his bid to make the grade at St Andrews.
Dubliner Rooney joined Birmingham from Inverness Caledonian Thistle last year, but the 23-year-old has struggled to get regular football in the City side this season. But Rooney was handed a rare start in Saturday's FA Cup clash with Sheffield United and duly delivered two goals in City's 4-0 win.
"Adam is a good lad, he works hard every single day. That's all you want. He appreciates where we are," said Hughton after Rooney's strikes, which took his tally for the season to six goals.
"He appreciates at times that he's going to have to be patient and he appreciates that it's going to be tough for him. But every time we have called upon him he has always tried to come up with the goods so I'm pleased for him. They were all clinical finishes, all of the goals and Rooney did well," added Hughton.
"Rooney does what he does best by getting into the box. The one thing he will always do is be in the box to try and score. I'm pleased for him."
