Hughton delight as Doyle saves day

IRELAND international Colin Doyle has earned the praise of Chris Hughton after helping Birmingham City to stay in the FA Cup.

Corkman Doyle, 26, was handed a rare runout by Hughton against Wolves on Saturday and he pulled off a stunning save late on to keep Wolves scoreless and send the tie to a replay.

“It was a brilliant save at the end. It kept us in the tie,” said Hughton.

“That is the thing with keepers. They cannot be too troubled for most of the game which was the case on Saturday. But we certainly needed Colin at that moment and it earned us a replay.”

Doyle, capped once at senior level in 2007, was making only his fifth appearance of the season for City, who will face Sheffield United in the fourth round if they win the replay.

QPR will host west London neighbours Chelsea in the fourth round if they can overcome the MK Dons in a replay at Loftus Road.

Chelsea captain John Terry could make a first return to the ground since he was accused

of racially abusing Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

As well as Liverpool versus Manchester United, there are two other all-Premier League ties in the fourth round, with West Brom hosting Norwich and Everton welcoming Fulham to Goodison Park.
