Hughes pens Stoke deal

Mark Hughes has signed a new contract as Stoke manager which ties him to the club until 2019.

Stoke announced on Friday evening they had initially mis-reported the terms of the deal, having said the contract ran until 2018.

"We apologise for our earlier blunder. Mark Hughes has agreed a new deal until 2019, NOT 2018 as we reported," the club said on Twitter.

"In other news, the media team will not be receiving a Christmas bonus this year ... Apologies once again!"

Hughes' previous deal was due to expire in 2016, but he revealed in January that he was in talks to extend his stay.

p Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has suffered a serious right knee injury during yesterday's training session with Italy and will be sidelined for six months.

His injury is a big blow for Italy and for Juve, who are alive in three competitions this season. Juve are 14 points clear of Roma at the top of Serie A with 10 games remaining. The Bianconeri are into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.
