Hoops up for a 'big week'

Shamrock Rovers man Gavin Brennan believes that last week's derby win over Bohemians has teed up the Hoops for a key week in their season.

Rovers are at home to Athlone Town in the EA Sports Cup tonight (7.45pm), but bigger tests await in the league against Dundalk (Friday) and Cork City (Monday), Rovers in confident mood after that 4-0 thrashing of their rivals.

"We had a bit of blip against Derry last week, and St Pat's earlier this season, so I think the Bohs game is more like the real us," says Brennan, who has been converted to left back this season.

"We all let ourselves down in Derry, I don't think you can fault the manager for that, we never got off the bus, really. The manager could have made 11 changes after the Derry defeat, he stuck with 10 of us last Friday and I think we repaid him with a good display. If we keep playing like we did against Bohs on Friday there's no reason why we can't challenge. We have a big week ahead of us, Athlone in the League Cup tonight, then Dundalk and Cork in the space of a few days, it's set up nicely for us."

Also tonight Bluebell United, who knocked Drogheda United out of the League Cup in the last round, aim for another shock as they travel to take on Bray Wanderers (7.45pm). Limerick are at home to Wexford Youths (7.15pm ) while Sligo Rovers are away to Derry City (7.45pm).
