Hoops happy with transfers as Meenan moves
Shamrock Rovers have made another attempt to bridge the gap between themselves and Dundalk by signing winger Darren Meenan from the league champions.
The Hoops, who last week announced that they had made four new signings, brought the number of new faces to five with the capture, on a pre-contract agreement, of Meenan, who is tied to Dundalk until the end of their Europa League campaign next month.
Meenan, 30, was a key figure for Dundalk in their title-winning seasons of 2014 and 2015 but he was a more peripheral figure last season, starting just 10 league games but Rovers boss Stephen Bradley has high hopes for the attacking player.
Rovers have also tied down Simon Madden, who missed just one league game last term, on a new deal and boss Stephen Bradley is pleased to have done this bit of business.
"I am delighted that Simon has agreed to stay on at the club. There was a lot of interest in him from other clubs so we are delighted that he sees his future at Shamrock Rovers," says Bradley.
"He is a great professional and I think is the best right back in the country."
Former Northern Ireland U21 cap Meenan joins Rovers after earlier spells with Finn Harps, Monaghan United, UCD, Shelbourne, Sligo Rovers, Drogheda United and St Pat's.
"We have got one of the best wingers in the country in Darren Meenan," added Bradley.
"His record over the last five-six years shows that. He makes things happen on the pitch, his levels of assists are incredible and he scores goals too!
"He's a top player and a great pro; we are delighted to have him."
Rovers have already brought in Roberto Lopes, Daniel Devine, Paul Corry and Ryan Connolly but are still in the market for more new signings.
They are keen on St Pat's pair Christy Fagan and Sean Hoare, while they also hope to persuade Keith Buckley to follow his former Bohemians team-mate Lopes across the city and move to Tallaght Stadium.
Current Rovers players Patrick Cregg and Gary McCabe have been strongly linked with a move to St Pat's but Bray are also chasing McCabe, as well as Bohs defender Derek Pender, who is out of contract.
