Henderson and Matip give Liverpool boost
Liverpool will receive a timely double boost ahead of Sunday's crunch clash against Manchester United with captain Jordan Henderson and defender Joel Matip both back in full training.
Jurgen Klopp's squad will regroup at Melwood as they begin their preparations for Sunday's pivotal Premier League showdown.
Liverpool flew back to Merseyside late on Wednesday night following their 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.
Neither Henderson nor Matip travelled to the South Coast as they remained at Melwood to build up their fitness levels.
Henderson has been sidelined since he limped off with a heel injury midway through the second half of the victory over Manchester City on New Year's Eve.
However, the Reds skipper has always targeted the clash with United for his return and as long as he suffers no reaction over the coming days then he's expected to start at Old Trafford.
Matip should also be back after participating in full training at Melwood.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Loris Karius believes Liverpool will be lining up at Wembley next month despite Southampton having a one-goal advantage going into the League Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield on January 25. "We didn't create that many chances," the German stopper said of Liverpool's display.
"In the last game in the league against them, it ended 0-0 but we had a lot more clear chances that we missed.
"This time we didn't really get through - they defended really well and had some counter-attacks that really hurt us. One-nil is not the result we were aiming for, but there's still everything in it for the second leg.
"As I said, it's not the ideal result, but we're still confident we can turn it around.
"With our fans, we will make it as difficult as we can for them. If we could score an early goal, that would be good.
"We'll see how the game goes, but it's going to be really tough for them."
The 23-year-old added: "I wish I could have kept the other one out as well when they scored!"
