Hands off Griezmann - Atletico president dismisses suitors United as 'small team'
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has told "small team" Manchester United to forget about Antoine Griezmann.
Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has made Griezmann his No 1 target for what is certain to be an expensive summer transfer market.
And while one of the player's advisors is upbeat about the possibility of the player moving to Old Trafford, Cerezo is less enthusiastic about the prospect.
"Every time I see Antoine I give him a hug. Antoine is a fantastic player and loves life at Atletico. Manchester United? Small team," Cerezo scoffed.
Cerezo is fully aware that the right price will secure any player in the world.
But he believes Griezmann - who could cost United a fee in excess of the world-record £89million they paid for his international team-mate Paul Pogba - should honour his contract, which runs until 2021.
"I believe in the contracts that people sign, that goes for (manager Diego) Simeone and Griezmann,"
Griezmann's image adviser Sebastien Bellencontre is towing a different line for his client who could be following in the footsteps - and famous shirt number - of his hero David Beckham.
"When I read articles on a hypothetical transfer to Manchester United, I have to say this would be the ideal scenario in marketing," he said.
"He would play for the same club as Beckham, his idol, with the same legendary No. 7 on the back."
