Hamann: Wijnaldum best since Gerrard
Didi Hamann has claimed Gini Wijnaldum's goalscoring prowess from midfield has given Liverpool something they have lacked since Steven Gerrard left in 2015.
Wijnaldum scored his fifth goal for the Reds in Sunday's 2-1 win over Burnley as he netted with the last kick of the first half to restore parity at Anfield against Sean Dyche's Clarets.
Wijnaldum has also netted against Watford, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea at Anfield, and Hamann thinks that the ability to grab goals from midfield is an important quality to have.
"I like him a lot. He showed at Newcastle that he's a goalscoring midfielder and I think he brings a lot more to the team," he said.
"He's got a lot of energy, he can win a ball, I think he's got very good vision, he's a good passer of the ball.
"So I think his all-round game is very good, and obviously the goals (are) the icing on the cake.
"Since Gerrard left, we lacked goals sometimes from midfield.
"The more players scoring goals, the more it takes pressure off the front three - they can't always do it on their own."
Wijnaldum scored his first Liverpool goal in a 6-1 rout against Watford in November, before adding his second of his Reds career in a 1-0 win over Manchester City on New Year's Eve.
Georginio Wijnaldum celebrates his goal after making it 1-1 for Liverpool.
The Dutchman then equalised in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on January 31 before securing the points late on after a sweeping counter-attack in a 3-1 victory against top-four rivals Arsenal earlier this month.
