Fulham get Bent on a loan deal for season

ASTON VILLA striker Darren Bent is going to Fulham on loan.

Bent is expected at Fulham for a medical in the next 24 hours after manager Martin Jol made a late bid to hijack the England international's move to Crystal Palace.

The £24million forward had seemed set to join Palace late last night but Fulham have swooped in and are now poised to take him to Craven Cottage.

Bent's move will be for the season and Fulham are expected to pay a substantial loan fee, and the majority of his £65,000 a week wages, if the deal goes through.

The 29 year-old has endured a difficult 12 months at Villa Park under manager Paul Lambert and was sidelined for the majority of last season, largely due to the emergence of Christian Benteke.

He was also exiled from training with the first-team squad when he returned for pre-season and told he would not feature in Lambert's plans.
