Fergie: Gibson had to go
DARRON Gibson has finally cut the cord with Old Trafford and joined Everton with Alex Ferguson's words ringing in his ears: "He has to get on with his career."
Ferguson's willingness to sell Gibson, at a time when Manchester United's midfield options are at an all-time low, left the Derryman in no doubt that his time was up.
“It's a good move for him. He has terrific ability but in terms of the pecking order here he knew he wouldn't be a first team regular all the time,” said Ferguson.
Gibson had extensive |discussions with Steve Bruce last summer but could not agree personal terms.
“He missed the opportunity to go to Sunderland and I think he regretted that. He's taken the opportunity to go to Everton. They need a player like him,” added Ferguson.
Everton boss David Moyes is delighted with his latest signing.
“I can see a hunger,” said Moyes. “He is young and wants to prove himself.”
