NO manager, no captain, no Wayne Rooney for the first two games and a squad split by a race row. England's Euro 2012 hopes lie in ruins while the English FA search for a replacement for Fabio Capello.

Harry Redknapp is the hot favourite with the bookies but one candidate, Martin O'Neill, has already ruled himself out of the equation and pointed the way forward for the EFA.

"I think when Fabio was going to leave after the Euros anyway, that Harry would be favourite to take over. I think he should be and I think he deserves that opportunity as well," said O'Neill.

Other names in the frame are Guus Hiddink and Jose Mourinho, rumoured to be on the brink of leaving Madrid.

However Keith Mills, a non-executive director at Tottenham, says the club will wait to see what develops regarding Redknapp.

"I think we're jumping the gun a bit," Mills said. "Whether Harry will be approached is not a foregone conclusion. If he is, then Harry has a big decision to make."
