Dunne has respect for Ronaldo
Richard Dunne has nothing but admiration and respect for Cristiano Ronaldo's rise from raw-boned kid to superstar.
Looking forward to tomorrow's Champions League final in Cardiff, Dunne remembers a different Ronaldo to the one who will try to terrorise Juventus wearing the Real Madrid shirt
"He's strong as anything. He doesn't look like he has any flaws in his game at all. You could see it, not clumsy on the ball, just over-exuberant, crazy stuff. You thought he would never last," he said with a wry smile.
"People were kicking him and pushing him over and doing all that. But he was told and rather than thinking he knew it all, he listened and learned.
"That's the sign of greatness in every way - a good person as well. He knows who is wise and who has the experience."
"There was talk a the start of the season that his age had gotten a hold of him, that he was declining.
"But he's gone again and played a more central role. The manager has been very good with him.
"And instead of throwing his toys out of the pram and saying, 'I want to play, I want to score', he's taken the advice again and he has rested.
"He has gotten stronger as the season has gone on. When the big games come along, so often the big players let you down.
"Ronaldo and Messi are the two players that always stand up," claimed Dunne.
