LIVERPOOL will try to head off a potentially explosive clash with Manchester United at Anfield in a month by seeking talks about the outcome of the Luis Suarez/Patrice Evra conflict.

And manager Kenny Dalglish has also tried to calm the waters by refocusing minds on club solidarity and glories of Cup football, beginning with an FA Cup tie against Oldham tonight.

"I'd like to get back on the pitch after the week we've had on and off it. It is the best thing we can do," said Dalglish.

"It'll be a great time too for our people to show support for one another - for the players to show their gratitude towards the fans for the support they've given us recently and also vice-versa."

A year after he was re-appointed, Dalglish is planning for tonight's FA Cup tussle with Oldham, as well as the first-leg of a Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City next Wednesday.

"The FA Cup has been undermined in many ways and for varying reasons but we certainly won't ever undermine it.

"We'll go into the Oldham game with the same attitude and desire as we went into the Carling Cup."
