Cooke: We just made too many mistakes
DROGHEDA UNITED boss Mick Cooke admits that his players played a part in their own downfall in their 7-1 hammering by Shamrock Rovers in the Setanta Cup final on Saturday.
"Every mistake we made was clinically punished and we couldn't get to grips with it," said Cooke.
"It was great to be part of a final, but we made too many individual errors, our players took the wrong options and Rovers got the benefit.
"Once we conceded a couple of goals, too many heads dropped, we made mistakes and were punished for them.
"It was hard to take, especially having done well against Rovers here at Tallaght only a while ago and conceding a third goal just before half-time knocked the stuffing out of us. But credit to Rovers, they did punish every mistake we made," added Cooke, who now has to list his players and revive them for a league game away to Limerick tomorrow.
"We gave them Sunday off, we'll go back training today and try to get going again, just draw a line in the sand under the Rovers game."
