city wait as klopp quits
JÜRGEN Klopp is now the hot favourite to replace Manuel Pelegrini at Manchester City after Borussia Dortmund announced that he will be leaving the struggling Bundesliga club this summer.
Dortmund confirmed that the 47-year-old would be released from his contract, which runs up to 2018, after Klopp asked to leave at the end of the season.
City, who are rumoured to be ready to dispense with the services of Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season, will see Klopp as the ideal replacement, with bookmakers already installing him at 15/8 to take over at the Etihad in June.
Klopp's representatives revealed they have already received expressions of interest from clubs but that they have yet to engage in any formal talks.
Manchester City will face some competition from European soccer's other heavy hitters, with Real Madrid and Paris St Germain also linked with Klopp.
Klopp arrived at Dortmund from Mainz seven years ago and has won the Bundesliga title twice, the German Cup once and reached the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2013, a game they lost 2-1.
Dortmund are currently 10th in the Bundesliga and there have been signs of Klopp's frustration in recent months. After a recent home defeat against Bayern Munich - who have signed several Dortmund players in recent years - the manager was dismayed by Sky Germany's request to interview him in front of the travelling fans.
"I've got to say I think that's a fantastic idea from Sky to interview me here and give those (Bayern) lads every opportunity to do what they want," he said. "But I guess this is just something else I've got to stomach."
