Bournemouth man Eunan O'Kane hopes that next summer will be Cherry picking time as the Derry-born midfielder and his club-mate Harry Arter plan to break into the Ireland squad for the European Championships.

Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane were occupied at the Euro 2016 draw last Saturday but it will have not have escaped their notice that Irish duo O'Kane and Arter (both 25) played for the Cherries in their 2-1 win over Manchester United, O'Kane a second-half sub for Arter.

Arter has played for the senior side just once while O'Kane is still uncapped and while it will be difficult for both men to break into the squad for France, O'Kane believes it can happen.

"It's going to be hard, you have a lot of players competing for those places in the Irish squad for France," O'Kane told The Herald.

"Of course I would love to be on that plane to France as would Harry, but if the two of us can do well for the club and then get some game-time in the friendly internationals next year, then we might have a chance." O'Kane added.
