Can gave Reds missing defensive edge
It seems odd to celebrate a dogged home win against Burnley as a season highlight but this was the kind of game that will bring Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool on in a big way.
No amount of eye-catching wins over big teams can compensate for points dropped against weaker clubs.
The benefit of this win is clear. With 'Top Four' rivals involved in the FA Cup, Liverpool have put some daylight between those chasing and closed up on those above.
It was a very important win and a very good day for Emre Can who put in a serious shift and brought a defensive edge to Liverpool which we haven't seen to often this season.
He was willing to put a foot in and meet Burnley's physical challenge head on.
In other words, he recognised the need to find a way, any way to win the game. We need to see a lot more of that against these teams.
Sometimes it has to be that way. Sometimes the passes won't stick or the opposition is just too obstinate.
Good teams always find a way to win though and once the habit is acquired, it can get you through the hardest games.
