Aguero set to sign new deal at City
Manchester City are hopeful that Sergio Aguero will sign an extension to his current deal, keeping him at the club until 2020.
And the Blues are trying to sort out the details of the new contract in time to announce it during their high-profile summer tour of China.
The club has been working hard to ensure that they capture the peak years of Kun, who had said earlier this year, cryptically, that he was planning to return to his boyhood club Independiente "after" the 2018 World Cup.
That was interpreted by the excited Argentine club, and by gleeful Premier League rivals who want to see the back of the lethal striker, as meaning he would leave in the immediate aftermath of the World Cup, in the summer of 2018. That came as news to City, who already had him under contract until 2019 at the earliest, and who had already begun talks over a new deal with his representatives. Aguero is the City poster boy, as well as arguably their best player, and his profile is as important to City off the pitch as his goalscoring exploits are on it.
When asked directly about his position, Aguero has never said anything other than that he is perfectly happy in Manchester, where he is not constantly in the public spotlight as he would be in Spain or even in his homeland.
City lost their first match under new boss Pep Guardiola when he returned to the Allianz Arena to face his old club Bayern Munich. Bayern enjoyed a 1-0 win thanks to a 76th minute Erdal Ozturk goal.
