Sligo blast online abuse of players
SLIGO Rovers have hit out at the online abuse directed at the club's players from disgruntled supporters.
With just two points from five games, Owen Heary's side have had a poor start to the season but club chairman Joe Burns feels that criticism is over the top.
"Sligo Rovers would like to condemn the recent abuse which has been directed at the club's players on social media," Burns said in a statement today.
"While all fans will have their opinions, and have the right to express those opinions, the aiming of personal abuse towards players can only have a negative impact on results. The team is having a difficult run at the moment and the disappointment at this is shared by everyone.
"All at the club are working hard to ensure that we improve our league position," the statement added. Sligo face Bray tomorrow night.
