Shaw and Murphy hoping to keep their momentum alive

Triathlon

AFTER an encouraging performance at last weekend's Mooloolaba World Cup in Australia, Irish triathlete Ben Shaw has moved on to New Zealand where he is competing in today's New Plymouth World Cup.

Also in New Zealand is Conor Murphy, who competes in tomorrow's sprint race after finishing 30th at the opening round of the World Triathlon Series in Abu Dhabi.

At today's Quarteira European Cup in Portugal, three up-and-coming Irish triathletes are in action.

Russell White from Banbridge, who competed in last year's Commonweatlh Games and also made his World Series debut, is the most experienced of the trio, ranked 17th in a strong field that includes U23 world champion Dorian Coninx from France.

Rory Sexton is in his second season competing at European level, while medical student Carolyn Hayes lines up in the women's race after a number of national wins last season.

Taking a break this weekend is Bryan Keane who will compete, with Shaw, at the top tier Auckland World Triathlon Series on March 28.
