CDETB Shelbourne Cup: Darling and Salmon send Dhulaigh to the promised land
COLáISTE DHúLAIGH knocked out the cup holders Larkin Community College with a 2-0 win over their close rivals in yesterday’s semi-final held at CDETB Sports Grounds in Terenure to reach the Shelbourne Cup final.
Two second-half goals, the first a superb long-range lob from Dhúlaigh’s Jordan Darling caught Larkin’s keeper Seán Dooley off his line, before their captain Darren Salmon sealed the win with a super solo run and a low finish to the net.
In the other semi-final last year’s beaten finalists Youthreach Northside put in an strong team performance in their 4-0 win against St Kevin’s College as they look to go one step further in this year’s cup competition.
A brace from Dylan Desmond, his first came from the penalty spot in the first half before scoring Youthreach’s fourth goal in the second half.
Dylan Kinsella had opened the scoring for Youthreach early in the game before Desmond doubled their lead.
Jordan Brady’s strike after the restart and Desmond’s second goal of the game put the match beyond the Saints despite their impressive showing earlier in the competition. Both teams will go into the final in two weeks’ time at the same venue believing their name is firmly on the cup.
