Table Tennis: High five for 'Rock as Bhride take their first stride thanks to Nga

Blackrock College won the senior boys’ title for a fifth year at the All Ireland Schools’ Table Tennis Championships held in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght.

On a great day for the college, the U13 and U15 teams also won for a clean sweep of the boys’ titles.

At senior level, it was a third win for the team of Andrew Campbell, Paul O’Kelly, Conall Molumby, Stefan Kelly, Jeffrey O’Connor, Stephen Campbell, Rory Murphy and Laurence Shields. They dominated their group beating the Green CBS from  Tralee 5-0 in the final. Each team had to play six singles and three doubles, with the first team to five winning the match.

In U13 girls’, Coláiste Bhríde Clondalkin, coached by Nga Nguyen, provided the story of the day.

Nga, a  transition year student, was coaching the first year girls  as part of her Gaisce award.

The team of Jenny Ekeziem, Oghogho Eubaziegbere, Toyosi Sosna, Chelsea Kavanagh, Meem Ali and Cindy Dang did her proud when they beat St Louis CC from Co Mayo for the school’s first title. Third U18 girls in their first appearance at this level were Loreto Foxrock.
