Athletics: CBS track and field championships - ó Ciadha times sprint finish to capture win

A DRAMATIC junior 1500m was one of the highlights of the CBS Schools Track and Field Championships in Santry.

From the start, Ciarán Farrell and Kasper Kapturkiewicz of Coláiste Choilm Tullamore took the lead ahead of Donnacha ó Ciadhra of Coláiste Eoin and Luke O'Donnell of Clonkeen. In the sprint for the line, ó Ciadhra narrowly made it ahead of O'Donnell and Farrell.

Almost as close was the inter 1500m, won by James Maxwell of Coláiste Mhuire from Alex Hogan and Seán O'Leary of St Aidan's.

Coláiste Mhuire added another victory to their list in the senior 1500m, won in style by Shane Hughes.

In the combined inter and senior 3000m Cathal came home first, with his St Aidan's team-mate Seán Carrig first inter finisher. In the 800m, Diarmuid McKeown of St Joseph's Drogheda won the inter boys race, with Eoin Strutt of St Fintan's best of the seniors. Coláiste Eoin was having a good day in the sprints, with victories for Seamus Fenton U15 and Ronán ó hAinfidh U19.

Ciarán McManus of St Aidan's won the U14 80m and David Murphy from Kilkenny CBS the U15 100m. In the field, Michael Curley of St Aidan's won the senior shot from Eoin Clarke of CBC Monkstown.
