Leinster turn Silver to gold in devastating Durham raid

WITH Leinster Badminton bidding to compete at the highest level, they sent an U15 team to Durham in England to play in a Silver Open event.

Competitors and teams travelled from Durham, Northumberland, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Wiltshire and, of course, Leinster.

On Saturday, it was the individual event, played in the fabulous Thornaby Pavillion in Darlington.

Once again Leinster and Portmarnock CS's Sara Boyle triumphed in singles as she topped her group table and booked her place in the final stages. Sara went on to take the singles title and won her first gold medal of the weekend.

She then teamed up with Ailbhe Fusco (Mayfield Drumcondra) to win a second gold.

Partnered

Ailbhe took a second gold herself when she partnered Terenure College's Sam McKay to win the mixed final -- that's was Sam's second medal of the weekend.

Sunday was a team challenge event and Leinster went on to lift the trophy as they defeated Durham, Northumberland, Yorkshire (A) and Yorkshire (B).
