JONATHAN Sexton insists he is learning how to deal with the pressure created by Ronan O'Gara's looming presence in the Ireland squad.

The Leinster out-half has been picked to start Ireland's Six Nations campaign against Wales at Lansdowne Road on Sunday ahead of his Munster rival but he knows how close a call it was for Declan Kidney and how much pressure he is under.

"With Ireland there is a little more looking over your shoulder because Ronan is on the bench. At times, it is difficult. Make a couple of mistakes, you're looking at the line after 50 minutes," he admitted.

"It is something I have to get used to. It is probably something I struggled with. But you learn a lot with setbacks.

"Declan is the man in charge. If he wants to bring Ronan on for the last ten, 20 or half hour, he can. I just have to make the most of my time on the pitch," said Sexton. "I can't control how long I'm on the pitch. I just try to control my performance," he said.
