RUGBY legend Paul O’Connell may have had a difficult fortnight, but his stellar career will be further recognised when he is conferred with an honorary doctorate by the University of Limerick.

Injury ended his World Cup early and his absence was sorely missed when Ireland crashed out of the tournament against Argentina.

Now retired from international rugby, O’Connell is at home in Limerick recovering from his injured hamstring.

The Irish Examiner reports that he is “delighted and proud” that he will receive the honorary doctorate next week.

A hero in his native city, O’Connell has already been conferred with the Freedom of Limerick City.
