Jonny deal 'was out of our orbit' claim IRFU

Jonathan Sexton will move to Racing Metro this summer on a two-year deal that IRFU chief executive Phillip Browne conceded "was not within our orbit".

There is even strong speculation that Racing Metro owner Jacky Lorenzetti's final offer neared the ¤1million a year mark.

"It is a sad fact of life in professional sport that if Jacky Lorenzetti wants his man or if Roman Abramovich wants his man, they generally get him," responded Leinster chief executive Mick Dawson.

"We are not in the blame game. Jonny has made his decision. I presume there were a number of factors. But I am sure some of them were financial.

"We would hope, maybe, in the future he would come back here. You would hope that something like that could happen," said Dawson.
