Fitzgerald left out of Six Nations squad
LUKE Fitzgerald was a shock omission from Declan Kidney’s Ireland squad for the Six Nations, which was announced today.
Despite a stunning return to form, the Leinster left wing has been left to stew in the Irish Wolfhounds at a time when he is just about to recover from a neck-shoulder injury.
Kidney did offer a carrot in terms of the Irish Wolfhounds squad to play the English Saxons at Sandy Park on Saturday week, eight days before Ireland play Wales at the Aviva Stadium. “The Wolfhounds game gives myself and the other coaches one final chance to give games to players to see possible options before we settle on our match day 22 for the opening game,” said Kidney.
There is also the curious inclusion of Leo Cullen in the squad even though it has been confirmed that he will undergo an operation on his Achilles in Sweden next week that will remove him from action for six weeks.
