Easterby calls on officials to protect Sexton
Ireland forwards coach Simon Easterby has made a call for referee Romain Poite and his officials to protect Jonathan Sexton at Twickenham.
"We can't do too much about what happens off the ball, that's up to the officials to make sure they pick up," he said.
It came in response to a plea to mind Sexton by taking the combative out-half out of the firing line or providing extra defenders down his channel.
"Johnny plays hard and that's the way he will continue to play the game," said Easterby.
"Whatever happens off the ball clearly is sometimes outside of our control."
This comes in the aftermath of France lock Yoann Maestri receiving nothing more than a warning for a cheap shot off the ball in Paris.
"Gone are the days where you can go and give someone a crack for doing something to one of our players.
"What we need to make sure happens is that those things that do happen off the ball get picked up and are correctly penalised."
