Colmcille's touch down ten tries to blow Lucan away

THE wind played a big part in deciding the outcome of this last-eight match played in Terenure on Tuesday, in which St Colmcille's scored 10 tries against a despairing Lucan side.

The team from Knocklyon benefitted from a gale force wind behind their backs in the first half, which gave them the momentum to see off Lucan Community College with relative ease.

The tone of the match was set straight from the off. St Colmcille's kicked off and the wind immediately began to cause havoc for Lucan, as they failed to gather the ball and a scrum was awarded against them deep inside their own half.

Colmcille's recycled the ball well before their captain, Mark Dolan, found space on the right-hand side of the pitch to run in and touch down. It was the first of three tries for Dolan, who had an excellent game.

There was no respite for Lucan in the first half as they faced an onslaught of pressure from their opposition. Try as they might, they could just not disrupt Colmcille's fluid rugby.

sidestepped

Daire McCormack got the first try of his own hat-trick with a brilliant break from the halfway line. He dodged a number of Lucan players and beautifully sidestepped a last-ditch tackle to put his team firmly in the ascendancy. Luke Byrne added another try after 32 minutes to take the score to 22-0 at half-time.

The second half was a closer encounter but Colmcille's continued to play impressively. Dublin minor hurler Sean McClelland finally managed a breakthrough for Lucan, but this did not worry the lads from Knocklyon.

They hit back with a flurry of tries in the last quarter of the match from David Mahon and two from Dara Maguire. Dara Gogan converted four out of 10 conversions, which was a good return when taking the wind into account.

Cormac Hayes scored late on to make the scoreline slightly more respectable, but it was a mere consolation.

McCormack sealed his hat-trick in the last minute of the match. Gogan added the final conversion to end the match and cap off a brilliant display.
