Not content with breaking an abundance of personal records this year, Clondalkin Rugby Club broke a world record early last Sunday morning.

Rather than in the local press or in the Leinster League table, Clondalkin's name will now be seen in the global record books. The CRFC name will stand proudly beside the likes of Jonny Wilkinson, who holds the record for the most points scored in a rugby union international career; Elton Flatley, who has the honour of holding the record for the fastest try scored in Rugby World Cup match; and many more, including, of course, record holders from outside the world of rugby.

It has been a season of firsts for the club as they have been making history on a regular basis, but the underage stars of Clon' achieved a feat that will gain the club international recognition.

AMOUNT

The Gordon Park side's underage players produced more tackles in one hour than the professionals do in one season and broke the world record for the amount of tackles registered in 60 minutes.

The youngsters smashed the previous world record held by the students from Scots College in Australia by over 2,000 hits.

In fact, the packed clubhouse was celebrating just 30 minutes into the record attempt as Clondalkin surpassed the old record of 4,130 tackles and were ecstatic on the hour mark as they set a new record of 6,300 tackles made in one hour.

"It is a great achievement for the club and all involved. We have to thank the parents and coaches as well as our generous sponsors.

"The kids have brought a great deal of honour to the club and it is an amazing feat for them. They really have been great, and all at Clondalkin rugby club are very proud of them.

"Our name is up there with the best of world and we will be heard about all over the globe," a delighted Tommy Duffy, who was the chief organiser, explained after the successful world record attempt.
