Paul hooks up with Royals

HIS tshirt bore the logo 'I Feel Love' on the day he signed for Reading, and Paul McShane says it was the fact that the Royals made him feel wanted which made him sign, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

The Wicklow-born player became the second Irishman to join Reading from Hull in the space of a week, following Stephen Quinn, as he agreed a three-year deal with Steve Clarke's side, having been released by Hull at the end of last season.

McShane, who spent seven years at Hull, had a number of offers but he won won over by Reading's interest.

"Reading is such a good club, I know lads who have played for the club before, they have given me great reports, and when I first found out Reading were interested, Steve Clarke came over to Dublin and met up with me there when I was with the Irish team, that was a good gesture which meant a lot. It went to show how much the manager wanted me here, and I feel really welcome," said McShane.

"For the manager to do that makes a massive difference. I want to be wanted, to play first team football and be a big part of the club. I want to be a big part of the team this year.

"I feel good and I'm delighted to sign."
