Top-seeded Magees hunting for African gold in Lagos
After their victory in the mixed doubles at badminton's White Nights International in Gatchina, Russia, Chloe and Sam Magee are aiming to make it two in a row at the Lagos International starting next Wednesday in Nigeria.
As top seeds, the Magees, world ranked No 27, have a bye into the second round where they will play local pair Idowu Timothy Adekunle and Asisat Ogunkanbi. At stake are valuable rankings points towards next year's Rio Olympics. For Chloe, qualification would mean a third Olympic Games.
In Russia, the Donegal brother and sister beat the ex-world number one Robert Matuesiak and his new partner Nadiezda Zieba in two tough games. So they are in confident form.
Chloe Magee (inset) will also compete in the women's singles where she is No 4 seed.
She plays Ogar Siampangila of Zamis in the opening round. In the men's doubles, Sam Magee pairs up with younger brother Joshua, who also goes in the men's singles.
