Poulter can Open up for Claret Jug

golf: british open

Betting in the golf majors such
as the Open, which gets underway
in just under a week from now, is
a bit like having a bet in the Grand National - you are entitled to pick more than one and you need to look
for value.

Rory McIlroy is favourite and - if turning up at his best - is a tasty price at 12/1, but unfortunately it is a big 'if' with Rory these days.

Graeme McDowell warmed up
in with aplomb in Paris last week
and he will be popular at 25/1,
but a man who could turn on the
style next weekend for the first
time in a while is Ian Poulter.

Driven by the prospect of a
Ryder Cup place later in the year, Poulter may well upset a few at
odds of 40/1 and looks overpriced
at that price.

Another to keep in mind is Jordan Speith at 33/1 and at massive odds
Ben Curtis is worth €5 each way.
