Players Champion Rickie Fowler has it all in the bag
THE contrasting fortunes of marquee name players Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler (inset) could hardly have been pronounced at the Players Championship.
Voted the PGA Tour's most overrated player in a Sports Illustrated anonymous poll of pro golfers, Fowler played a heart-stopping last six holes (four birdies and an eagle) on Sunday to earn a playoff, which he won.
Struggling to find consistency in his game, Tiger Woods tied 69th from 75 competitors, on 3-over as opposed to Fowler's -12. Those amazed at how Fowler birdied the challenging par-3 17th hole, the island green, three times on Sunday might like to know that he used a Cobra Tour Trusty wedge. He has three - a 51-degree pitching wedge, a 62-degree for a lob and a 57-degree as well.
His driver, a Cobra Fly-Z+, has an adjustable flip weight that alters the centre of gravity.
Fowler neutralises spin off the tee by positioning the weight in the forward position. He says he relishes playing the Irish Open, May 28-31, as Players Champion.
