Goggins cues up in Carlow for another crack at title

Already underway at the Ivy Rooms is Carlow is the Irish Snooker Championships 128 stage, with the top sixteen qualifying for the RIBSA Championships weekend from May 22.

Top seed for the tournament is Rodney Goggins of 147 Wexford, who has made six of the seven ranking tournament finals this season, winning three of the titles.

Brendan O'Donoghue with two wins from four finals is ranked at No 2, while ex-professional Michael Judge of Q Club Wicklow, is at No 3 ahead of his club-mate Robert Murphy. Last year, Judge made the final where he lost to Martin McCrudden of Celbridge

Goggins is drawn to play Shane Gorman in his opening match this morning, with Robert Murphy the only other big name in the top half of the draw.

In the bottom half of the draw, to be played tomorrow, the players include O'Donoghue and Judge along with previous winners Martin McCrudden, David Hogan Jason Devaney and Colm Gilcreest.
