Thursday November 05 2009

Ireland gave European champions England a good workout at Lilleshall yesterday but ran out 4-2 losers.

The English took an early lead but were pegged back by a splendid individual effort from Pembroke Wanderers' Andy McConnell.

Again, the hosts took the lead, just before the break, but the Banbridge combination of Geoff McCabe and scorer Eugene Magee responded shortly into the second half.

The fixture is being repeated again this afternoon, providing valuable practice for Ireland as they prepare for their World Cup qualifier later this month.
