Biarritz ready to avenge hurt Thiam's Lee purse is to be withheld Pozzato delights Giro's home fans Loreto earn draw

RUGBY: Imanol Harinordoquy has vowed that Biarritz will not make the same mistakes of four years ago when they contest tomorrow's all-French Heineken Cup final against Toulouse.

Biarritz have never lifted the Heineken Cup, and memories of a 23-19 defeat against Munster in the 2006 Millennium Stadium final still hurt French Grand Slam star Harinordoquy.

"That final is a very bitter memory," said Harinordoquy. "What drove me mad was the feeling we were not ready for the event. This year I really believe in what we are doing. We are not favourites, but I really think we stand a chance."

Meanwhile, former Leinster out-half Felipe Contepomi was named in the Argentina squad for tests in June against Scotland and France, after an absence of more than 18 months.

Niland's dreams dashed by Reister

Tennis: Conor Niland's dreams of making the first round of the French Open were ruthlessly ended as Germany's Julian Reister defeated him in the second qualifying round at Roland Garros yesterday.

Reister's 6-2, 6-4 victory belied the ATP world rankings that saw the Irishman sit three places higher at 169.

Senegal-born Thiam retired in the interval between the second and third rounds at UL claiming he suffered a back injury.

cycling: Team Katusha's Filippo Pozzato recorded the first Italian stage win in this year's Giro D'Italia after a tight sprint finish to stage 12. The top 10 remains unchanged, with Australian Richie Porte retaining the race leader's pink jersey.
