Olympian Reid survives Kiwi test to finish 15th


Irish Olympic triathlete Aileen Reid (below) finished 15th at the  second round of the World Triathlon Series over a particularly brutal course in Auckland, New Zealand.  Reid's time of 2 hrs 13 mins 53 secs put her over four minutes behind American triathlete Gwen Jorgensen who was taking a tenth victory in the series. 

In the men's race, Bryan Keane finished 42nd in 2:04.07, and Conor Murphy 48th in 2:06.38, with Ben Shaw dropping out. Winner was Britain's Jonathan Brownlee in  1:55.26.

Locally, 200 seniors and 80 juniors braved stormy conditions for the National Duathlon Championships in Ennis.

Men's winner was Killian Heery who took the lead during the 27km cycle and held on during the final 4km run to finish in 1 hr 24 mins 31 secs. Piranha's Richard Doyle finished second with Peter Kern just five seconds adrift for third.

In the women's race, former Commonwealth Games triathlete Heather Foley took the lead during the windy bike section and went on to win in 1 hrs 33 mins. Second was GoTri's Carolyn Hayes.
