New dawn on Mobhi Road for champions
THE Michael Murphy Cup won't be on display in Glasnevin this season.
Na Fianna won a cracking Dublin Senior Championship final against Foxrock Cabinteely last summer.
But now they are re-building on the Mobhi Road, and they are happy to do so.
"We have lost 13 players from the Championship winning team, so we had a lot of young players coming onto the team," explains mentor, Jimmy Ward.
"We are trying to give them the experience necessary to eventually be able to compete. The top teams have the know-how. We are just striving to be as competitive as we can."
The champs were in a difficult group with St Brigid's, Kilmacud Crokes, Fingallians and Thomas Davis.
"It's been a learning curve for the squad. We have had great days here. Dublin and Leinster success, and reaching the All-Ireland final.
"But everything goes in cycles. It's the same in every club. "But we'll keep at it," states Jimmy, whose co-mentors are Tommy Cushen, Tiernan Doolin and Eamonn O'Donnell.
A major lift is the sight of Mary Nevin out guiding the minors.
When she was playing for the Dubs, nobody put in as much effort.
The Na Fianna kids couldn't have a more inspirational figure guiding their path.
