Luke not expecting Ireland call-up
IPSWICH Town's Ireland hopeful Luke Chambers fears that he will never get the chance to wear the green shirt after being snubbed by the Irish management.
Defender Chambers has impressed as an ever-present under Mick McCarthy this season but while club-mates Daryl Murphy and Conor Sammon have been named in Ireland squads recently, and David McGoldrick is expected to get the call soon, Chambers has never been called on even though he qualifies via the parentage rule, a frustration for the 29-year-old.
"I've been qualified for a while and I obviously said about it before, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen now," he said.
"They are obviously watching us because there's talk about McGoldrick, Murphy, even Hunty. There's no talk about me though. It's just something that, if it comes it comes, but I'm not going to go out there begging for it and shouting from the rooftops. If they don't want me involved then there you go."
"There are lot of players from the Championship getting in the squad. It would be nice recognition, but I know it might not happen now.
"I've been baffled by a lot of things in my career. I think I've been good enough to play in the Premier League and I've not got there.
"I might have too high opinion of myself, but in football sometimes people do have opinions that baffle you."
