Dundalk kept up their blemish-free home record to earn the win which nicely tees up a top-two clash with Cork City next Friday night.

Stephen Kenny's side had yet to drop points, or even concede a goal, at Oriel Park this season and they had another perfect night as a Richie Towell hat-trick secured a 3-0 win over Galway United. After a scoreless first half, Towell struck twice in two minutes early on and added a third on the hour mark to seal the win.

Cork City stayed close to leaders Dundalk ahead of that imminent meeting of the top two thanks to a 2-0 home win over Longford Town.

Garry Buckley scored his first goal of the season three minutes before half time to put City on the way and a Colin Healy free kick on the 67th minute made sure.

Mikey Drennan kept up his scoring streak to help give Shamrock Rovers a win away to Bray Wanderers. The ex-Aston Villa man put the Hoops in front on the half-hour mark with his sixth goal of the season, a Ryan Brennan header on 56 minutes doubled the lead and Keith Fahey set up Max Blanchard for a third goal.

Owen Heary was unable to outwit his former club as Sligo Rovers were held 0-0 at home to Bohemians.

The sorry slide down the table by Limerick carries on after the Blues lost yet again, going down 2-0 at home to Derry City. A Barry McNamee penalty (25 mins) put Derry in front and Mark Timlin added a second just before the break to end Derry's goal-free run.
