Lion Williams to miss rest of season

MILLWALL will have to cope without key Irish midfielder Shaun Williams in their relegation battle as the Dubliner has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Ex-Sporting Final man Williams injured himself when he crashed into an advertising hoarding during last week's win over Wigan, their main rivals in the relegation dogfight, and the club have now confirmed that Williams will not recover in time for the Lions' final three games.

"Unfortunately Williams won't feature again in 2014/15 after suffering a freak injury. He has sustained an impact fracture more common in snowboarders landing from height rather than footballers," said Millwall physio Bobby Bacic.

"We will give another update on his condition later after he has a review with the surgeon, but we expect to let the bone heal naturally."

With three games to play, Millwall are three points behind Rotherham United. Meanwbhile, Rotherham will not call on Ireland striker Conor Sammon again after he ended his loan spell and returned to Derby County.
