Joe's service sums up the Skerries spirit

FIFTY ONE years - not out. That's some innings.

Joe McGuinness got a standing ovation last Saturday night.

And a special presentation from the chairman of Skerries Harps, Niall Murphy.

Remarkably, Joe has been on the executive committee of the club for over half a century.

Ten years as secretary and the last 41 as treasurer.

"Joe has seen many changes in the club over the years, but the highlight was the opening of the new clubhouse last May," states Harps PRO, Fergal Lynch.

"Joe has done so much for the club and he deserves the full congratulations of all at Harps and in the community," added Fergal.

Joe has also seen many great goals over the decades, but perhaps none better than the one Bryan Cullen scored on Saturday evening.

Skerries were at home to Lucan Sarsfields in Division 2 of the Adult Football League.

Midway through the second half, the ball dropped at the feet of the the All-Ireland winning captain.

And his soccer-style stunning half volley sped to the net, helping Harps to win and maintain their promotion challenge, with Bryan contributing 2-5 (0-4 frees).

And then there was the further cheer on the coast with Pat Delaney's excellent report on the success of the U14 footballers, who returned from Tyrone with the All-Ireland Division 1 Regional Féile na nGael title.
