Irish stars get the axe from Millwall after relegation
TWO Irish players have paid the price for Millwall's relegation from the Championship after they were included in a mass clear-out.
The Lions have released 18 players from the current squad and while Irish lads David Forde, Shaun Williams and Aiden O'Brien are under contract for next season, Alan Dunne and Dylan Casey have been let go.
Ennis lad Casey leaves without having made his debut but Dublin native Dunne was a club stalwart, with over 400 games.
"I am really heartbroken to be leaving Millwall. My dream was always to retire in a Millwall shirt but after 23 years my time has come to move on," said Dunne.
Carlisle United have also wielded the axe as they released ex-Ireland cap Stephen Elliott and transfer-listed Gary Dicker and Daniel Kearns.
