IRELAND'S NEW recruit Jeff Hendrick has promised not to let Giovanni Trapattoni down after the Irish boss vowed he would put a number of new faces straight into the starting line-up for next month's friendly against Poland.
Trap has included five uncapped players in his 27-man squad for the Poland game and he's already stated his intention to start new boys Anthony Pilkington, Hendrick and Conor Sammon in the Lansdowne Road tie.
"It's a big honour just to be in the squad but to be in the team from the start would be something else.
"If that happens then it's up to me to show I am good enough to be there," Coolock lad Hendrick told the Herald today.
"It would be a big leap to go from the Championship into the Ireland team but I'd like to think I would be ready, and the same goes for Conor Sammon.
"I have seen Conor play here at Derby alongside me and I think he's ready as well.
"I just want to get over to Dublin now, get into there with the squad and see how things go. I'll be raring to go if I get a chance.
"It all happened very quickly. I got a text yesterday morning from the club, congratulating me as I'd been picked for the senior Ireland squad.
"I have been on a high ever since," added Hendrick.
