'I must have been drunk' – Jamie Carragher questions previous opinion of Mario Balotelli
Jamie Carragher is clearly happy to see the back of Mario Balotelli at his beloved Liverpool, but as was pointed out today on Twitter, it is a change of opinion on the controversial Italian.
Balotelli is moving back to his former club AC Milan after completing a medical. It is thought he will move initially on loan with an agreement in place for a permanent deal in the summer.
It brings to an end a highly disappointing time at Anfield where he has struggled for form.
Speaking last night on Monday Night Football, Carragher left viewers in no doubt to his feelings on the former Manchester City player.
"The Balotelli one was a major mistake from the whole club, not just Brendan Rodgers but the transfer committee in bringing him in," he said.
The quicker he is moved on [the better]. They have Benteke and Sturridge coming back. I still can't believe that they signed him. He hasn't worked out and he has to move on.
"He is kidding some coaches if he gets a move to AC Milan."
However, it was pointed out to the Sky Sports pundit that just last year he described Balotelli as a bargain for £16m, something the Anfield legend seemed sceptical about.
"Please find me that quote & where it's from I must've been drunk if I said it!!," he replied on his Twitter account.
How apt it was that Deluded Brendan, the hugely popular pardody account of Reds boss Brendan Rodgers with more than a quarter of a million followers, pointed out the column where Carragher did indeed argue the merits of signing Balotelli from Milan.
"Thanks Brendan! A bargain compared to Ross McCormack which I think is a fair comment!!" he responded.
