Willie Mullins' Douvan latest star to top the Herald entries
The Grade One Herald Champion Novice Hurdle boasts a pretty impressive roll of honour and the opening Grade One at this month’s Punchestown Festival has again attracted plenty of big names.
Fresh from his impressive Supreme Novices’ Hurdle win at the Cheltenham Festival last month, the Willie Mullins-trained Douvan tops the list of 18 following the release of the entries yesterday.
Also included in the two-miler that was previously won by Moscow Flyer, Hurricane Fly, Brave Inca, Jezki, and last year by Faugheen, are Grade One winners Sizing John and Shaneshill.
There is a strong British entry across the major Grade Ones at the meeting with Al Ferof, Ballynagour, Cue Card, Holywell, Menorah, Silviniaco Conti and The Giant Bolster all included in the Bibby Financial Services Punchestown Gold Cup.
Willie Mullins has a formidable team of entries across each race and as well as the likes of Djakadam and Champagne Fever in the Punchestown Gold Cup and the BoyleSports Champion Chase respectively, Mullins has also given entries to his leading novices with Don Poli given the option of the Gold Cup and both Vautour and the breathtaking Un De Sceaux in the mix for the Champion Chase.
Vautour also features in the 3m1f Growise Champion Novice Chase alongside stable companions Vroum Vroum Mag, Don Poli, and Valseur Lido, while recent Ryanair Gold Cup winner Gilgamboa is also included for Enda Bolger.
Shark Hanlon has indicated that it’s all systems go for the BoyleSports Champion Chase at Punchestown with his stable star Hidden Cyclone.
“Two miles at Punchestown suits him well, as he proved in the Tied Cottage, and hopefully he will run another big race,” he said.
