Time to Sea the best honoured

Last Thursday a life-sized statue of former Irish Champions Stakes winner and track record holder Snow Fairy (right) was unveiled and quite lovely it is too.

The bronze was a a gift from Cristina Patino, the owner of the six-time Group One winning filly and it takes pride of place near the winners' enclosure at Leopardstown.

But surely the time has come for arguably the greatest Irish trained racehorse of a lifetime, Sea The Stars, was recognised with a life-size statue in Ireland.

It took far too long for a statue of Arkle to be erected and that will forever be to the credit of the committee who got that off the ground.

But following his exploits in 2009 and of course now that he is on the road to being a proven sire, it is surely time that either Leopardstown, where he won the Irish Champion Stakes on such a memorable day, or even the Curragh where he never ran as a three-year-old but where he was of course trained so masterfully by John Oxx, make a move to remember him in a similar way.
